Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct sets the minimum behavioral standard for every participant of BUFT International Model United Nations 2025 (BUFTIMUN 2025). It complements BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology’s institutional regulations and is enforceable throughout the conference period, both on campus and in all committee rooms.

1. Purpose and Values

BUFTIMUN 2025 exists to promote diplomacy, critical thinking, and cultural exchange under the theme “Harmony Through Dialogue.” Delegates therefore commit to:

  • Respect – valuing every individual irrespective of identity or viewpoint
  • Integrity – maintaining honesty, academic rigor, and diplomatic courtesy
  • Safety – ensuring a harassment-free and violence-free environment for all
  • Inclusivity – allowing free expression of ideas without disruption

2. Scope

This Code applies to all delegates, chairs, observers, advisers, volunteers, vendors, and guests at:

  • Any BUFTIMUN formal session, caucus, social, or cultural event
  • BUFT campus grounds, residence facilities, transport arranged by the Secretariat
  • BUFTIMUN-branded online spaces and social-media interactions.

3. Delegate Conduct in Committee

  1. Decorum: Delegates shall follow the chair’s gavel and preserve order at all times.
  2. Diplomatic Language: Disparaging, discriminatory, or profane remarks are prohibited.
  3. Remain in Character: Speak exclusively for your assigned country or portfolio except during procedural points.
  4. Electronic Devices: Laptops and phones may be used only for research or draft-writing; texting or recording other delegates without consent is forbidden.
  5. Academic Integrity: Plagiarism in position papers or draft resolutions results in immediate disqualification.

4. Conduct on Campus and at Events

  1. Free Expression vs. Disruption: Peaceful dissent is protected, but actions that unreasonably hinder classes, ceremonies, or committee work will be halted by officials.
  2. Physical & Verbal Abuse: Any form of violence, intimidation, or unwanted contact is strictly forbidden and will trigger removal and potential referral to authorities.
  3. Harassment & Inclusivity: Zero-tolerance toward sexual, racial, religious, or any other harassment. Report incidents promptly to the Secretariat help desk or Security.
  4. Smoking & Substance Use: Smoking or vaping is banned inside all BUFT buildings; alcohol or illicit drugs are prohibited in committee spaces and under-age social events.
  5. Political Activity: Campaigning or partisan activity unrelated to conference procedure is not allowed on BUFT premises.
  6. Dress Code: Business Formal is required for all sessions. 
  7. Identification: Delegate badges must be worn visibly at all times; access to committee rooms or meals may be denied without proper ID.
  8. Property & Environment: Respect university property; littering, graffiti, or damage will incur financial liability.
  9. Photography & Media: Obtain consent before recording individuals; flash photography is prohibited during voting.

5. Digital Behavior

  1. Cyber-Harassment: Offensive memes, mass-messaging, or doxxing in official groups is banned.
  2. Conference Materials: Do not share draft resolutions or delegate contact lists outside official channels without permission.
  3. Social-Media Representation: Posts that misrepresent BUFTIMUN or violate this Code may lead to disciplinary action.

6. Safety & Emergency Protocol

  1. Follow instructions from BUFT Security or Secretariat staff during drills or emergencies.
  2. Tampering with safety equipment (fire alarms, extinguishers) is grounds for expulsion.

7. Reporting & Support

Confidential, prompt, and impartial handling is guaranteed.

8. Disciplinary Measures

The Secretariat reserves the right to impose, singularly or cumulatively:

  1. Verbal or written warning
  2. Removal from a session
  3. Disqualification from awards
  4. Expulsion from the conference without refund
  5. Notification of home institution or local authorities
    Appeals may be lodged in writing within 2 hours of sanction issuance; the Secretary-General’s decision is final.

9. Acknowledgement

By registering for BUFTIMUN 2025, all participants affirm that they have read, understood, and will abide by this Code of Conduct. Non-compliance waives rights to participate further and may affect eligibility for future BUFTMUNA events.
